Read web pages aloud, with the voice you choose.
Read For Me: Text to Speech is a Chrome extension that reads the paragraphs of a page out loud — paragraph by paragraph, highlighting the one being spoken — using the text-to-speech provider you configure, or the optional premium plan if you would rather not manage a key.
Free, and usable signed out with your own key. No analytics, no tracking.
What it does
Reads the page you are on
Paragraph by paragraph, with the spoken paragraph highlighted and the page kept in sync as it goes.
Caches what it generates
Audio is kept in the page's own storage, so replaying a paragraph is instant and never re-bills your provider.
Exports what it cached
Download a ZIP of the audio files, or render the whole thing as a video.
Works signed out
Signing in is optional. It unlocks the premium plan and cloud sync, and nothing else depends on it.
How it works
- Choose a voice. Paste your own OpenAI, Azure, ElevenLabs or Google Cloud key, point the extension at a speech server on your machine, or subscribe and pick from the included voices.
- Press play. The extension splits the article into paragraphs, sends one at a time, and starts speaking as soon as the first clip arrives.
- Keep it. Each clip is cached for that site, so a re-read is free, and the cache can be exported as audio or video whenever you want it.
Plans
The extension itself is free and needs no account: plug in your own provider key and everything happens on your device. A plan is for when you would rather not manage a key — we hold the provider credentials and proxy the speech. Creating an account adds 10,000 credits to try it with.
- 40,000 credits a month
- 2.0 GB of cloud storage
- Tone detection, so the read matches the writing
- Automatic language detection
- Cloud sync for cached audio
- Video export
- Premium voices, with no API key to manage
- 100,000 credits a month
- 10.0 GB of cloud storage
- Tone detection, so the read matches the writing

- Cloud sync for cached audio
- Video export
- Premium voices, with no API key to manage
- 300,000 credits a month
- 50.0 GB of cloud storage

A credit buys one character of standard speech; the premium voices cost a few credits per character, so a plan's allowance goes less far on ElevenLabs than on Azure or Google. If a period's credits run out, a one-off top-up of 50,000 credits costs $4.99.
Your data
Signed out, only the paragraph you ask to have read leaves your device, and it goes straight to the provider you selected. There is no analytics, no telemetry and no tracking. The full picture — including exactly what the premium plan stores and when — is in the privacy policy.
Questions
Do I need an account to use the extension?
No. Signed out, the extension reads the page with a text-to-speech provider you configure yourself, and the audio never leaves your device except to that provider. An account only adds the premium plan.
Which providers can I use?
OpenAI, Microsoft Azure, ElevenLabs and Google Cloud, each with your own key, or a speech server you run on your own computer.
What does the premium plan actually change?
It adds premium voices without a key of your own, tone and language detection, cloud sync for the audio you have already generated, and video export. The reading itself works either way.
Where does my audio go?
Generated audio is cached in the page's own storage on your device, so replaying a paragraph is instant and never re-bills your provider. It is only uploaded when you turn cloud sync on. The privacy policy has the full picture.
How do I cancel a plan?
From the account page: Manage subscription opens Stripe's own portal, where you can cancel or change the payment method. Your credits stay usable until the period ends.
Something went wrong?
The extension's popup has a Report an issue button that sends the page you are looking at to us so the problem can be reproduced. If you would rather write to a person, use the contact page.
